With the start of the 2015-16 school year, SciWorks is pleased to announce the return of free admission for all Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools’ field trips.

SciWorks has seen a tremendous growth in annual attendance over the last four years—from approximately 74,000 in fiscal year 2011-12 to more than 93,000 during fiscal year 2014-15, which ended on June 30. “As part of our mission, we want to increase the attendance among our local public schools with populations who may be unable to afford to visit SciWorks and take part in the informal, hands-on scientific learning available for our community,” Dr. Kortenaar says. “In addition, the WS/FC schools who participate in the 2015-16 Title 1 program can receive a grade-level curriculum-related program free of charge as well, which is due to the generosity of those who have donated to our ‘Adopt-a-School’ program.”

The goals of the SciWorks Adopt-a-School Program are to provide students, teachers and fam30ff-sci-works-d1_DSC_4310-resizedilies with new ways to foster creativity and innovation; lessen the burden on families and schools by fully covering the cost of a curriculum-related program during a visit to the museum; and to build lasting relationships between local schools, SciWorks and organizations which share the mission and passion for educating today’s youth.

Individuals or schools who would like to participate in the SciWorks Adopt-a-School program may contact Jennifer Hudson, Director of Development, at (336) 714-7110 or via email at
