Focusing on Eye Safety and Sports at Forsyth Family Eye Care

Spring is in the air! It’s time to get out and enjoy the warmer weather. Parents are signing their children up for sports activities of all kinds. Forsyth Family Eye Care is ready with an array of safety glasses to suit whatever sports your child or you undertake. At Forsyth Family Eye Care protecting eyes is of paramount importance; “You Can’t Play if You Can’t See.” They have received a Performance Vision Center Award for their “continued dedication to protecting and enhancing vision,” from Prevent Blindness and Dr. Alan Reichow, in partnership with Liberty Sport.

According to the National Eye Institute, eye injuries are the leading cause of childhood blindness, with most being sports-related. On an annual basis, approximately 40,000 people visit emergency rooms for sports-related eye injuries. Ninety percent of these injuries are preventable with the correct protective eyewear, such as safety glasses or goggles, safety shields, and eye guards. Safety glasses that are designed for a specific sport, regular glasses, contacts, or sunglasses are not adequate eye protection for sports activities.

Forsyth Family Eye Care carries a wide selection of Liberty Sports eyewear for children of all ages and all types of sports (from swimming to baseball, football, basketball, skiing, and more). Features of Liberty Sports eyewear include a wide selection of frame colors and designs (from pink, navy, purple, dual colors, and patterns); and polycarbonate, shatterproof lenses with frames designed to be flush with the face, keeping debris from getting under the lenses and into the eyes. Sport straps are included to keep the frame from sliding. Some frames include removable side shields and/or dry eye cups (to minimize sweat, wind, and debris). Transition lenses are also recommended for outside sports to minimize sun damage to the eyes. Liberty Sports indicates the type of sport each frame style is suited for, to make selection easier.

No matter what sport (contact or non-contact), the proper eye protection is critical. Skiers, motorcyclists, golfers, cyclists, and other sports enthusiasts have unique eye-safety needs. For instance, the mirrored lenses that skiers and other winter sports participants wear help keep their field of vision clearer. Some sports facilities now require their guests to wear proper safety glasses to participate.

Forsyth Family Eye Care also offers industrial safety glasses. Whether a customer is sent by an employer for safety glass fitting or is purchasing individually, a selection of OHSA-approved industrial eyewear, with permanent or detachable side shields, is available at Forsyth Family Eye Care.

Forsyth Family Eye Care is hosting a frame and style show with vendor representatives at their office on Thursday, May 11th, from noon to 7:00 pm. Plan to stop by to see the latest in eyewear styles for sports and daily eyewear. Register for door prizes. Refreshments will be served. A special discount is being offered: with the purchase of one pair of frames, purchase a second pair at 50% off for frames and lenses (excluding eye exams).
