Greensboro Science Center A Bustling Trio of Family Fun: Aquarium, Museum and Zoo!

Tucked away in northwest Greensboro is the very best family fun around.

The only destination in North Carolina that houses an aquarium, a museum and zoo all rolled into one amazing adventure; the Greensboro Science Center is home to oodles of animals and cool, interactive exhibits. Your kids will be so engaged with what’s going on around them they will forget how much they are learning as they explore!

Not just a Triad treasure, the Science Center, you may recall, was recognized earlier this year for their rescue of several endangered green sea turtles from the North Carolina coast after a sudden drop in water temperatures left them “cold-stunned” and unable to recover on their own. They underwent “rehab” at the Center, with a happy outcome.

To get a good glimpse of the Science Center, first, meet the animals. Come for a visit and you’ll get to know 19 African penguins by name, including their latest offspring. You’ll meet an adorable family of otters, then take a walk on the wild side outdoors, where you’ll gaze at tigers, lemurs, meerkats and mischievous gibbons who delight in entertaining their daily zoo audiences.

On the future front, exciting plans are also in the works for a state-of-the-art veterinary hospital, as well as expansions for the Aquarium and Zoo. Currently, the center does have an onsite vet who cares for their wide array of creatures. No matter what your favorite “species” of animal there’s always something new to discover. The much-loved Dinosaur Gallery, also scheduled for an update, features larger-than-life specimens and, of course, every child’s favorite, T-Rex, who reigns over the mighty exhibit in royal fashion!

While you’re immersed in this three-in-one family destination, make time to see a show in the OmniSphere Theater (many are in 3-D) or participate in a behind-the-scenes experience at the Aquarium to see firsthand what’s involved in the day-to-day care of all the creatures there.

Next, explore yourself and the world around you: Every day at the Science Center is a unique adventure and, with the addition of traveling exhibits throughout the year, the possibilities are endless. From now through June 5th, 2016, your family can enjoy the amazing temporary exhibit, BODIES REVEALED, which celebrates and details the human form in unique ways that are appropriate for all ages. With over 200 organs and carefully preserved specimens included in the exhibit, and an accompanying audio experience (one version for adults and one version for children) that explains the glorious inner workings of our anatomy, this is learning at its finest. BODIES REVEALED also explores the effects of disease and lifestyle on humans, explained by trained and dedicated staff members. It is a true feast for the senses and an educational treat for the entire family.

Also new this year is SKYWILD, an exciting treetop adventure park with seven different courses at three intensity levels, so come to participate or come to watch your child soar. Sure to get and keep your adrenaline flowing, SKYWILD offers 60 unique challenges from suspension bridges and zips to a series of invigorating climbs, and can also be reserved for parties and corporate events.

Always a parent favorite, the Science Center is known for its popular summer camps and instructional hands-on classes for after-school groups and home-school groups, plus a selection of pre-K classes for the younger set. For lovers of reptiles and amphibians—yes this is touching and experiencing science firsthand, not just observing! Completely dedicated to the comfort of its families, the Greensboro Science Center welcomes visitors with convenient parking and all the necessary amenities for an all-day adventure, including a café run by The Fresh Market, where all proceeds return to the center. Both individual and business memberships are available, as well as regular individual daily tickets to all attractions.

So plan a spring trip to the Greensboro Science Center with your entire family, meet their cohort of animal inhabitants and learn a little bit more about the world around you. The fun you’ll have is just an unforgettable bonus!
