With summer winding to a close, many of us are looking for ways to extend the carefree days and relaxed schedules. There are so many fun features of summer that will magically disappear as soon as the school bells begin ringing…except for one! Harry Kahuna’s Tiki Grill will be a year-round escape for those looking for a mini vacation from the hustle and bustle!
“Harry Kahuna’s was inspired by a family trip to Hawaii last year,” said owner Lee Anne Edwards. “We wanted to create an experience that reminds us all of being on vacation with the food and flavors and atmosphere that can be found at the beach.”
The branding for Harry Kahuna’s has been quite an undertaking—every detail was carefully planned—especially the Harry Kahuna mascot! “We wanted to create a family-friendly environment that is full of fun and whimsy,” said Edwards. “Our Bigfoot ‘Harry Kahuna’ mascot was created with that in mind. It has been very exciting to watch our vision grow into such a fun, inviting and, we hope, memorable place.”
The menu promises to take you to a tropical island with unique flavors you don’t normally find in Winston-Salem. “The menu features foods you love eating at the beach, including our twist on BBQ,” said Edwards. “We have island flavors featured on traditional BBQ like Kalua pork butt, jerk chicken, Asian sticky ribs and more.” There is also seafood, steak and burgers to satisfy everyone’s tastes!
Christopher Byrd is the executive chef at Harry Kahuna’s. “Christopher is a native of Augusta, Georgia, and a graduate of Johnson and Wales in Charleston with many years of cooking experience,” said Edwards. “He has spent time cooking in Belize and brings some great techniques and recipes to share with the tiki grill. We know you will enjoy his menu!”
Harry Kahuna’s has already made quite a name for itself! “So many people contacted us before opening and are very excited about the restaurant,” said Edwards. “We truly think it will be worth the wait!”
Lee Anne and her team at Harry Kahuna’s already have big plans for the future. “We hope to offer hosting possibilities for private events, as well as catering options for offsite events,” said Edwards. “We will also offer a full traditional tiki drink menu as well as a few signature kids’ drinks in fun souvenir cups.”
