After a very successful transition to a new location on Country Club Road, Mac and Nelli’s is proud to celebrate its first anniversary in the new space! Though most of their customers “moved” with them and continued their weekly dinners out at Mac and Nelli’s, the new location welcomed many new faces during the past year and will surely welcome more for many years to come.
“We are really happy with our new location because of the additional space—adding 45 more seats in this space,” said Lori Shaver. “We have been welcomed into the new area, gaining new customers from the neighborhood and also retaining a lot of our regulars from the other location. We thank them all for their support and friendship. Here at Mac & Nelli’s, we strive to make everyone feel welcomed and at home. Our friendly staff is accommodating and willing to go the extra step to make sure our customers are well taken care of. My husband and I are always here to talk to our customers and make sure that they are getting great service, the food is outstanding, and it meets their expectations.”
These goals are accomplished daily with an extensive menu that satisfies even the pickiest of eaters. “Mac & Nelli’s has something for everyone,” said Shaver. “All appetites and price ranges—from appetizers, salads, sandwiches, to pasta entrees and certified Angus beef. We offer weekly specials, such as 35-cent wings on Mondays and Wednesdays; Thursday is our $5 classic burger night with an eight-ounce prime ground beef; and, of course, our ever-so-popular slow-roasted prime rib every Friday and Saturday. We do make a few changes to our menu each season to keep things fresh. We will be bringing back our crowd-pleasing she-crab soup for the fall and winter.”
With football season in full swing, many of us find ourselves switching back and forth between multiple games on at the same time. At Mac and Nelli’s, you can watch all the games at once! “Since football season began, we have added eight more TVs around the restaurant and bar area, and now offer the NFL Sunday Ticket,” said Shaver. “This has given us a broader customer reach, because not many places offer the football package in the area. So, people ask, ‘are you a sports bar?’ Well, we are accommodating to the public with what it wants. We have added so much more to our venue because people have asked us. We have live music every Monday with Mike Bustin—a guy who just walked in our door one day; we had him play one night and, two years later, he is still our Monday night music. He is awesome! We have added trivia to Tuesday nights, and we have some great prizes that are given away. Wednesdays, we have karaoke that draws a good bunch of singers. Now, the newest to our weekly line-up, every Thursday will be a live sports-talk radio show with Scott Hamilton, sports writer/director for the Winston-Salem Journal, from 3–6 p.m. There will be call-ins, live interviews and appearances from coaches and players from all different sports: Nascar drivers, golf pros and local celebrities, like Dale Jarrett.”
Mac and Nelli’s is constantly adapting to what its customers want, which is why it has enjoyed so much success in the last year on Country Club Road. In addition to serving customers the best, it is important to owners Art and Lori Shaver to give back to the community that supports them. “We feel like we are part of a community here, and we will help where we can,” said Shaver. “We have had local churches do fundraisers for mission trips, and some that collect food for a local pantry to help feed local families. We are having a holiday-shopping ladies’ day out on November 7th from 10 a.m.–3p.m., featuring local moms that have home parties and sell handmade crafts. This is a chance to support local businesswomen in our community. As a business owner, I feel it is just a good thing to support others in their businesses in the community. That is why we have started a Facebook page for any business on the ‘OutSkirts of Downtown Winston-Salem’ to post any of their upcoming events.”
