On Friday, October 27th, more than 300 guests gathered at the Senior Services Center, on Shorefair Drive, in support of the “Evening for Alzheimer’s Care.” This marks the 17th year that this annual event has been held to benefit Senior Services’ Elizabeth and Tab Williams Adult Day Center. Event chairs for the second consecutive year were Hunter and Sandlin Douglas.
The fundraiser’s presenting sponsors were Wake Forest Baptist Health and WestRock, whose gift was a tribute to Cynthia and Stephen Anderson, the evening’s honorary chairs. Among the other top sponsors were Wells Fargo, Arbor Acres and Golden Corral.
As guests mingled, enjoyed the music—provided again this year by Kevin Douthit on keyboard—and visited with friends, they also had the opportunity to peruse the wonderful array of more than 300 silent auction items donated by area businesses and individuals. The items up for bid included furniture, jewelry, tickets to sporting events, artwork, electronics, vacations and gift certificates to some of the area’s best restaurants. Highlights of the menu for the evening’s buffet dinner, catered by Five Loaves, were the grilled salmon and pork tenderloin, along with the European chocolate cupcakes with chocolate truffle centers.
Casie Hammons, Director of Senior Services’ Annual Fund and Special Events, added, “As always, it was a fun-filled occasion, raising thousands of scholarship dollars for individuals living with Alzheimer’s disease who attend the Williams Adult Day Center. We are very grateful to all the sponsors, patrons, auction item contributors, guests, and volunteers who help make each year’s event more successful than the last.”
